Open Flashcards: Plants is designed to help students learn and study plant life of the Pacific Northwest, with the ultimate goal of learning the plant families and their species. The app allows users to learn bout the various plant families both native and non-native to the area, as well as view the species within each family. Reference photos for plants are provided, and specific details like perianth, inflorescence, fruit, etc. are included for most families. The app also features a flash card and quiz system letting students create custom lists of plants to study and be quizzed on - by family description, species, families, or photos.
Furthermore, a guidebook sort of function is planned to be implemented in later iterations, allowing users to input a plants features in the field, and the app will attempt to return them the specific plant they were looking at.
Open Flashcards: Plants is a joint project between the Western Washington University Center for Instructional Innovation & Assessment (CIIA) and the WWU Biology Department.
